Senior BI Consultant – Power BI

A large public-sector organisation is seeking a Senior BI Consultant to support the design, implementation and optimisation of future-proof Business Intelligence solutions. The consultant will work at the intersection of business and technology, translating business needs and requirements into high-performing, user-friendly reporting solutions, with a focus on Power BI, data modelling, ETL, reporting governance, self-service BI and user-centric reporting. What we're looking for - Minimum 5 years of proven experience as a BI Consultant. - Proven experience with Power BI. - Proven experience with reporting tools. - Proven experience with ETL and Data Management. - Proven experience migrating reporting platforms from Cognos to Power BI. - Proven experience with Power BI governance. - Proven experience rationalising reporting landscapes. - Proven experience with user-centric reporting design. - Bachelor’s or Master’s degree. - Dutch at CEFR C2 level. - Willingness to sign the required IT Code and NDA. Nice-to-have - Experience with Agentic AI within Power BI. - Experience delivering Power BI and AI training. - Experience with requirements analysis. - Experience with Visual Design Sprint Methodology. - Experience with Power BI adoption reporting. Additional details - Analyse business needs and reporting requirements; translate functional requirements into scalable BI solutions; design future-proof reporting architectures and data models; and ensure solutions are performant, maintainable and aligned with business needs. - Design, build and optimise Power BI dashboards and reports; create intuitive, user-centric reporting experiences; apply best practices in data visualisation, usability and information design; and support self-service BI adoption across the organisation. - Analyse the existing reporting landscape, identify redundant, outdated or low-value solutions, rationalise and simplify the reporting environment, and support migration from legacy reporting platforms, including Cognos, to Power BI. - Work with ETL processes and data preparation; support integration and transformation of data from multiple sources; and contribute to reliable and consistent reporting data models. - Contribute to the definition and implementation of Power BI governance; support standards for workspace management, datasets, access, ownership and lifecycle management; contribute to adoption reporting and usage monitoring; and help establish scalable governance for self-service BI. - Design reports around end-user needs rather than purely technical requirements; improve usability, readability and information flow; apply user-centred design principles; and support stakeholders in defining meaningful KPIs and reporting views. - Support users and stakeholders in adopting Power BI; deliver training and knowledge-sharing sessions where required; contribute to internal BI best practices and reusable standards; and support knowledge transfer around Power BI, AI and reporting governance. - The profile combines strong technical expertise with a user-focused mindset, comfort working with business stakeholders and technical teams, the ability to translate complex reporting needs into clear, intuitive and scalable Power BI solutions, autonomous working, clear communication, and active contribution to governance, adoption and continuous improvement of the BI landscape.
