Database Architect

For a large Belgian healthcare technology environment, this assignment seeks an experienced Database Architect / Senior DBA to join a business-critical database migration programme. The assignment focuses on migrating a legacy Sybase ASE environment to PostgreSQL and requires a strong combination of architecture, hands-on implementation, performance tuning and database automation. Key responsibilities include designing the target PostgreSQL architecture, supporting Sybase ASE to PostgreSQL migration, translating and redesigning complex T-SQL patterns, performance tuning and query optimisation, indexing, partitioning and scalability, data validation and migration quality controls, supporting cutover and migration strategy, automating database administration and monitoring, acting as PostgreSQL SME for the wider team, and supporting the legacy Sybase environment during transition. The contract is Freelance / T&M, start is ASAP, duration is 6 months + extension possible, and the work model is Hybrid. What we're looking for Must-have: 10+ years as Database Architect / Senior DBA; Deep PostgreSQL expertise; Large-scale database migration experience; Performance tuning and query optimisation; Database administration and automation; Linux / Unix and scripting; Fluent Dutch and English; Willing to work onsite in Leuven 1 day/week + 1 day/week from a designated office.
